Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas!

Thought I would show some pictures of a Christmas Dollshouse scene I created a few years ago. It was published in Dollshouse World magazine, I think the December 2009 issue. Worked on it for months and love to display it every Christmas!

A bit over the top, I know but it was fun to do. My kitchen hasn't had much work since my last post as I have been busy with Christmas preparations, but I have done some wood painting and cut worktops as well as cutting the hole in the worktop for the sink. This was quite hard as I did it with a craft knife. I think it would be easier to drill holes first, which I didn't do.

Oven and worktop progress

Since my last post I have been painting and sanding all the base units ready for door fitting. I even added a door knob to one door. Going to try and find a smaller drill bit for the others as the one I used is slightly too big. I also painted, sanded and coated the plinths for underneath the bases.

This is how the layout will be with the sink in the middle of the island. I have built the extractor fan kit as you can see here.

A worktop has been cut and needs painting/covering with film for a granite effect. The oven front kit is really nice and looks great. It is a piece of black plastic, 2 pieces of aluminium  plus the handle, knobs and screen.

Unit Progress

I have made some progress on the kitchen. I have built the shell of the two biggest base units (One is to be an island). I found it quite tricky to get them to stick together straight. I followed the guidelines of using elastic bands and lego to create a right angle to build them against, but found this did not work that well. I got better results from sticking together by hand and then using elastic bands. Might be that my bands are too small and thin.
I also started fitting together my Elf wine rack. I am so glad I purchased one of these! At £8 each at first I felt it was expensive but I think it will look amazing when complete. I have been applying the HI-gloss film to my cupboards and drawers too as you can see from the picture. My next step is to build my last base unit and the 3 wall units, then onto adding the plinths to the bottoms of the bases.

I hope to follow some of my other projects on here as well as adding a post or two on completed projects. Should have a good one to post just before Christmas!

Elf Miniatures kitchen arrived!

Just started my Elf miniatures EAZY kitchen kit. I have wanted one for my Fairbanks house for years. It is a difficult shaped kitchen with so many doors and no space for a corner unit so a custom kitchen was required. It also meant I could choose to have it exactly how I wanted including worktop colour, cupboard finish etc. The kit comes in many pieces and requires quite a bit of preparation before building.

In the picture are some of the accessories I ordered or have bought at fairs for the kitchen. The fridge and light are from Dollshouse Emporium. The first thing I have done with the kit is paint and sand all cupboards and drawers ready for covering in white HI-gloss film. My favourite things ordered are the Miele dishwasher and washing machine. The noises and lights are quite realistic and although they are toys, they are the best quality I have come across for a modern dolls house.
